Notes About The Poem

Photography by- Brooke Shaden

Beautiful Darkness

Desiring not the defeated or desperately seeking,
Perpetual being the definition of one fearfully seeking.

Depth sneaks in to destroy each timid step,
Darkness divides the surface while impatiently seeking.

Beauty scatters along the horizon unrecognized,
A lost soul in the unknown is carefully seeking.

Striving to escape the gravitational pull,
The mind still aimlessly seeking.

Forfeit it all and dwell in the insanity,
Serene emptiness leaves the heart truthfully seeking.

I enjoyed your poem very much, you followed most of the Ghazal's specifications. The rhyming and the refrain are correct, but ghazal has a lot more than just rhyming. One of the most important things in ghazal is the meter/ syllables that will follow throughout the poem. Yours varies from 8 to 18. I know this is probably your first time writing this form and you have done a good job, but for the future, Poterysoup has a great explanation of this type of poetry.

Hi Pashang, thank you so much for this information on how the Ghazal is to be written. Yes, this is my first time writing in this form. I am good at following directions. I just didn't look at this form as closely as I should. I appreciate your kind words, for your compliment as well. My best to you. :) Brandy

Wow! That is some gorgeous Ghazal musing, Brandy. Very thought provoking poetry. Radiant ruminations of ruby luminescent quality. Prismatic poetry innervision refracting. Love and best wishes for the holiday.

Ghazal is a great form of poetry and I have written some in the past. . we are always seeking, especially when we are lost... especially in darkness...if we do not seek we do not find light ...

It seems the longer one stays in the darkness, the harder it is to find the light. Even after searching. They just give up. Thank you Silent One. Your kind words are appreciated. ~ Brandy

Many are caressing both, at the same time. Darkness and Light!! It is best to choose the right way. To linger in the Light. Thank you John, for your wonderful comment. You and your thoughts are appreciated. ~ Brandy

I ventured into the realm of poetic depth in your words as I read your poem, Brandy. Ghazals are so expressive--kudos for your wisdom words. I often listen to mesmerizing Ghazals written by the masters--just to get lost in the truth they reveal.
