Beats Me
He packs his bag to bring to an end
the business of spending life with her.
With tear-stained eyes she accuses
"You lied! you said it would be forever.“
"No, baby, I did not lie," he softly replies,
"I only said what was true at the moment.
I really meant it at the time when I said it
but that was me then and I am me now."
Circumstances change and so do feelings,
just as running waters cannot stay the same.
Only a stagnant pond does not alter its shape
which may be why it is a blot to the landscape.
'What I am today is what I will still be tomorrow'
is to claim you cannot grow, change or borrow.
Nothing remains the same and none ever will
for life is moving, kicking and restlessly ticking.
So what is truth and what is a lie? Hm, beats me!
