Beat Down

tromping hooves beat down
darkened, tear-stained earth below
battered, beaten, bruised
inside walls too thick to show
my true nature crouching low

Charles Henderson Date: 10/13/2012 9:56:00 AM It is said that originally haiku and tanka did rhyme. However, reading rhyme is an entirely different thought process than reading material which makes you think. Over the years poets dropped the amusing rhyme for the more intellectual comment style of writing. Is not a sin to employ the rhyme if you can maintain the complex thought process the poem is trying to project.
