Be Thine Own Judge
Those moments
When none is there but you,
Demand the most
That you watch what you do;
For while you may succeed
In deceiving the whole world,
You can never be wiser
Than the all-knowing God.
When a rose in your hand
Is but a gun at heart,
It will be sheer hypocrisy
Not to reveal it as that;
For such is the reason why
Many friends are foes—
They come with warm smiles
And hide their woes!
Yet of a great truth
No peace for the wicked,
Just as no proud soul
Will ever be exalted.
Hence, in all that you do,
Search your own mind:
That you may not be judged
When your guilt is found.
