Be the Best Me
We say, “It's all in his hands”
“It shall be done in his name”
Allegedly, we've inherited a kingdom
And in his death and resurrection, we’re saved
So if he died for all our sins
Can we sin no more?
If everyone who believes is forgiven
Have we been given the key to the door?
You might ask, “so what's the point”?
“Why make an effort in this life”?
If everything is preordained
Why are we so filled with such strife?
Why make an effort?
If everything will be what it will be
What about free will?
This all seems silly to me
I think the majority of life is cause and effect
I think we reap what we sow
I think the more we educate ourselves
We realize, how little we know
I think we must accept the fact that to live is to suffer
And reframe suffering as a method of growth
It is through this process, this new awareness
We become comfortable with saying “I don't know”
Comfortable acknowledging, we don't know how we got here?
Were not sure about life after death?
The only thing certain is the fact that I'm here
And I have a lot to do before my last breath
I understand that horrible things will happen
But most of life is in my hands
I accept this unique opportunity
To be the best me that I can
