BE OPEN

It was only recently
That I became aware
Of barred doors
Made of steel
Guarded by soldiers
Scanning for intruders
...be open

Well, that's easy
For those who
Came from lush
Green, rolling pastures
Where horses run wild
Flowers grow free
...be open

The only thing I could erect
Was a Silo of meager grain
In a dry field of thistles
Where night creatures roam
Howling from hunger
Panting for prey
...be open

Ok, ok, the defense is gone
I have ventured out
To work on that field
And I am learning to trust
The dark, as friend
But don't ask to come in
...still closed
