Battles

Within the darkest hours, we reflect
upon the things that gives a life its breath
and focus on but that which intellect
deems worthy, we can fall into the depth

of logic over heart, and while some say
this may but be the nobler way to live,
it may in fact our deepest selves betray
and bid us push away when we should give

ourselves to naught but matters of the heart,
primordial soul, the beacon of what’s true
which binds us to that which we’ve wrenched apart
from what we know and trust can guide us through.

Though faith and righteousness will be my guide,
I pray some day you’ll know what lies inside.
