Notes About The Poem

In the 1950's and '60's, the term 'bonus baby' described a teen-age baseball phenom who was given an unprecedented sum -- back then -- like $20,000 to sign a contract for a major league baseball team. They usually flopped miserably... Kept the money though...

Bankrupt Bonus Baby

      Running head-on into reality
      his ‘can’t-miss potential’ vanquished Jimmy

~ All that glittery made him jittery
