Notes About The Poem

Baiting the Bog With Chum

They congregate in a bog
vying to be the boss hog
all the teethy little fishes
Swimming in circles they go
Baldy, Waldo, and Bozo
When one of them dishes
they all start to nibble
Watch them hurry to the bog
mouths drooling with dribble.

Throw out the chum
and watch them bite
at each other's bum.
It's a hilarious sight.
Swimming in circles they go
Feeding time is status quo
Along the shore they creep,
waiting to dive into the deep.
It's a condition known as stasis
but has no factual basis.

There's no hurry to reel them in
once they've been hooked.
Their circus act can be booked.
Swimming in circles they go
Banjo, Bongo and Bo Bo
A school of big mouth bass
from waters of the lower class
floating around in the bog
getting themselves waterlogged.

Shooting fish in a barrel Lin, you make it look so easy to write these fun escapades, plenty of meat on the bone here for the reader, but probably won’t last too long with baldy and his gang circling around, a naughty but nicely penned piece, cheers David

These are easy to write and it doesn’t matter what worm I dangle from the hook. They’re hungry to bite so I reel them in and throw them back knowing they’ll bite again. I don’t think it’s naughty at all compared to some of the fish tales I’ve read. In fact, I’m being rather nice by throwing them back in.

Dear Lin, such a lively, mischievous romp. It all made me smile. I love how you turn the bog into a full-blown circus of personalities, swimming with wit and sharp observation. A wonderfully entertaining piece, Lin. Winter Blessings, Lin, Daniel

Thanks a bunch, Daniel. It was an easy write because it's based on reality. Toothy biters lurk beneath bog waters.

Lin, Haha, hmm these fish sound familiar. They're attracted to the chum, must be nasty bottom bog dwellers. They usually start attacking each other.

Cannibalistic piranha. Good reason to stay outta the water. Thanks, Tania.

lol Tom. The piranha in The picture will be caught but not taken aboard. We can cast for sport using them as chum

It is not I who swims with the fishes. I’m more particular these days about the company I keep.
