Backseat Driver
Well I'm going against my better judgement here
And telling you all of my mistakes
I'll do it on my own terms though
Because I don't want to get too close for too long
I know with each word I speak your heart breaks
So I'm pulling away with every ounce of strength I can muster
Because honesty nowadays lacks a certain shade of luster
And I'm terrified of our future together
This January air makes it too cold to catch my breath
But my lungs are burning with a sense of urgency
And I'm unable to breathe
I can't help but to speak faster, revealing all of my skeletons
But I'm drawing in closer to you
When all I want is to settle down in this backseat away from view
I'm failing at keeping my distance
Because this wasn't the way things were meant to be said
