Baby Boomers

Baby Boomer
Kevin Davis – 2026

If you are like me, you’re a Baby Boomer too—
Born after World War II, when love still felt true.
My parents’ bond was sacred, an honor shining bright.
Five sisters and brothers shared the warmth of that light.

In a small town, then smaller still, our childhood gently grew.
Our values and our manners taught early—firm and true.
From our extended family we learned what love could be:
For every soul and creature, and faith in God we’d see.

In elementary school, the fifties shaped our start—
Reading, writing, ’rithmetic—I took them all to heart.
My older siblings paved the path that guided me each day.
They sparked a love of learning that never went away.

As childhood opened wider, the sixties rolled in fast—
A world of change and color replacing shadows of the past.
Yet in our home the constants held—respect, hard work, and grace.
My mother’s steady patience, my father’s quiet pace.

They taught us how to listen, to speak with honest care,
To stand up for each other, and for what felt right and fair.
Through schoolyard days and summers long, our dreams began to grow.
We learned that life was bigger than the streets we used to know.

Still, those early lessons shaped the choices that we made—
To value truth and kindness in every path we laid.
And as the world grew louder, with its hopes and its divides,
We carried home within us, like a compass deep inside.

Then came our teenage seasons, with questions sharp and new.
The ground kept shifting underfoot, yet home remained our view.
We learned to trust our instincts, to work for what we sought,
To honor every blessing that our parents’ labor brought.

The seventies rose before us with choices wide and bold.
We stepped into adulthood with the courage we’d been told.
Some traveled far from where we’d grown, some stayed close to the land,
Yet all of us kept holding to the values close at hand.

Careers began to blossom, and families of our own
Became the next foundation built on seeds our parents had sown.
And though the years moved swiftly, as years are meant to do,
The lessons of our childhood stayed steady, clear, and true.

For in the heart of every change, in joy or troubled tide,
We carried home within us—still that compass deep inside.
A quiet, guiding presence through each chapter life unfurled,
A gift from those who raised us, and the era that shaped our world.

As decades kept unfolding, we learned what time can teach:
That love is found in moments simple, always within reach.
We watched our children flourish, the way our parents dreamed,
And saw in them the echoes of the values we esteemed.

The eighties brought their energy; the nineties brought their pace.
We balanced work and family, and each challenge we would face.
Through triumphs and through heartaches, through laughter and through tears,
We leaned upon the wisdom gathered from our early years.

And now, with gentler footsteps, we look back and understand
How every trial and blessing shaped the course we hadn’t planned.
The world has changed around us—new wonders, new divides—
Yet still that inner compass keeps its steady place inside.

For all the roads behind us and the ones still yet to roam,
We carry in our spirits the quiet strength of home—
A legacy of kindness, of faith that does not sway,
A gift from those before us that we pass along today.

And now, in quiet moments when the days move soft and slow,
We find a deeper meaning in the memories we know.
The faces of our loved ones—some here, some gone ahead—
Still walk beside our footsteps in the words they once had said.

We treasure simple blessings more than ever in this stage:
A grandchild’s laugh, a neighbor’s wave, the wisdom earned with age.
The world keeps spinning faster, yet we’ve learned to take our time—
To savor every sunrise, every season’s subtle rhyme.

For though the decades change us, the heart remembers well
The stories of our childhood and the truths we long to tell.
We pass them to the young ones, hoping they will understand
The strength of love and family, the ties that gently stand.

And as we look toward tomorrow with gratitude and grace,
We honor all the footsteps that have brought us to this place.
For life is but a journey, and we’ve walked it side by side—
Still guided by that compass, still carrying home inside.

And in these seasoned chapters, with our hair now touched by gray,
We find a quiet beauty in the blessings of each day—
The laughter of our families, the friendships that remain,
The courage earned from trials, and the grace born out of pain.

We look upon the younger ones with hope for what they’ll find—
A world that still needs kindness, a world that calls for mind.
We offer them our stories, not as rules for them to keep,
But as lanterns in the darkness when the road ahead feels steep.

For we have seen the decades turn, the world reshapes its face,
Yet love and faith and honesty still hold their rightful place.
And though our steps grow slower, our hearts beat just as strong,
Still grateful for the journey that has carried us this long.

So here we stand together, with memories deep and wide—
Still guided by that compass, still carrying home inside.
For every joy behind us and the ones still yet to be,
We walk with quiet wonder at the life we’ve lived so free.

And as the twilight gathers, soft as evening’s fading light,
We hold the years behind us with a tenderness so bright.
For every joy that found us, for each sorrow we endured,
We see how love sustained us, how our faith kept us assured.

We marvel at the blessings that time quietly bestows—
The peace in simple moments, the grace that gently grows.
We’ve learned that life’s true riches aren’t in things we store away,
But in the hearts, we’ve touched with kindness on an ordinary day.

So now we walk with gratitude for all that we have known—
The families we nurtured, the gardens we have grown.
And though the road grows quieter, its meaning feels clearer:
Each step was worth the journey, each memory held dear.

For we, the sons and daughters of a hopeful postwar dawn,
Have carried forward legacies that still live on in us.
And as we face the future with its mysteries yet to be,
We trust the inner compass that has always guided me—

A compass forged in love and truth, in laughter, faith, and pride,
Still steady in our aging hands, still shining deep inside.
And with that light before us, whatever years remain will be
A testament to where we’ve been—and who we came to be.
