Notes About The Poem

Away In Contest ~ Sponsor: Jan Allison

Away In a Circus

Away in a circus
I’d lions to tame.
Controlling the wild beasts
Was my claim to fame.

Lions were escaping,
‘Twasn't me they'd eat.
Quickly, they ran past me
Hunting for fresh meat.

Acrobats were swinging.
So were one guy’s nuts.
Lions gobbled him up
He was such a dumb klutz.

The Big Top had fallen
People screamed out loud!
I nearly got trampled
By the frightened crowd.

I saw the clowns crying.
Paint dripped down each face.
I cracked my whip and said,
"You’re such a disgrace!"

Away from the circus
I found more pleasure.
Married a millionaire.
A lady of leisure.

I’d pay good money to see that performance, Lin. I sure hope that Lion didn’t have a nut allergy. Congrats on this top spot win. Terry

LOL Terry, that's exactly the kind of comment I'd expect from you, and it's pretty funny. Thanks!

Away in a circus I’d love to be, but a disaster I’m likely to be. Love this poem Lin, congratulations on your win in Jan’s contest

what can I say Lin except this was absolutely fabulous, its such a shame the original contest was pulled but I have had such fun reading the entries and awarding top spots to those who entered the original contest, many congrats on your win. Shame I can no longer see the picture I recall it was hilarious!:-) hugs Jan xx

Shameful, it was that Julia Ward flipped her contest theme after several poets had entered. You deserve kudos for re-birthing the original theme so new life was given to those poems. Thank you!

What, with that ringmistress and those swinging acrobats, your circus poem is very 'intents' Lin. Now..where do I sign up? :) Cheers - Gary

ha ha Gary. I trained those lions, so they knew what they were doing.

Re: the poor acrobat come trapeeze artist..The lions were probably just keeping to a 'balanced' diet. :) ..start the car... Cheers - Gary

She is a stunning beauty, Gary. I'll send you an application. We're in need of a new trapeze act, but I suggest you sign up for a different position. One of the last guys had a very nasty testicle moment... but NO clowns! lol Thanks for your comments.

to be eaten by a lion would seem to be painful

I'm with David on his take of this lion tamer, Lin. Sometimes PS seems like a circus. Three rings of chaos at the same time. Win or not, your entry is easy on the eyes. I mean to read of course.

Your photo is very distracting Lin, so I found it difficult to concentrate on the poem at hand, did you mention someone got their balls ripped off, Ouch! Madcap humour at its best and a very funny read, I’m heading off on holiday so probably won’t be around much over the next couple of weeks, but I’ll try checking in if I get a chance, cheers David

You know I might just join the circus instead of going on holiday, I need a little taming after viewing that photo lol, thanks so much Lin!

David, she is a beauty and you’re such a guy… thank goodness! Yep, those lions were on the prowl and since the man had them exposed the lions chomped. It was a testicular moment and a bloody mess. Enjoy every minute of your holiday. You will be missed~hugs!

I took it when you went into that costume shop on the corner of Whippit Street and Big Top Lane. I'm feeling the same emotions that you are. I've no doubt we'll not be on that list since we've both been blocked for years. But... in the spirit of supporting contest sponsors, we've entered.
