AUTUMN ROSE

Such a precious rose.
A pale, fragile, perfect pink.
I caress it now.
Gently against my cool cheek.
Like lips that brush make me blush.

Nice and sensuous, Jean. I wish judges would not use the premier contests because we miss out on all the other really great poems that got left off the winner list.

I use the contests for inspiration mostly Andrea. It's always a thrill to win but to be inspired to write something is good enough for me. Thank you for stopping by.

This is lovely Jean! I am sorry to see this did not make the short ten winner's list. Mine didn't make it either. I am reading so many great entries that did not make her list...I bet she had the most difficult time choosing. I can tell you love roses. : )

Morning Connie. It's always a thrill to be on a winning list. But it's more thrilling for me to write a piece to be proud of. I'm proud of this. Lovely to see you.

Anna-Lise, I want to walk into your hug, like I do with my middle child. She literally gives bear hugs.

Thank you Sharon. We Irish have a song with the line "lips like eiderdown". When I look at these particular bulbous roses in my garden, I am reminded of the softness of both.

Beautiful tanka, Jean. The alliteration on top, the physical senstions in the last two lines.

I had to look up that big word Darren. I guess like Sandy tells Danny in Grease, I just feel my way.

I grow my own roses James and some of them look good enough to eat.
