Autumn Night Shadows
Shadows of the newest night;
strange, moving, fluid motions
cast in simple black and white,
flash out and pinch your notions.
Shadows leaping may thrill you.
Shadows creeping may chill you.
Shadows may move upon wind
to plant whispers in your hair
or tease traces on your skin.
Shadows prize giving goose bumps
with no beginning or end.
Shadow shapes won’t let you know
if they touch you close as foe
or caress you as a friend.
Tonight’s shadow wind is charm –
just autumn’s yearly alarm
that her color and brightness
will soon recess behind us!
Step tonight into shadows
that flirt with the playful wind.
Inhale anticipation
as autumn’s shadows do spin
wonderment anew, again.
Not shadows to fight or flee.
These shadows move in delight
on breeze of pure, dancing glee.
It is autumn’s majesty –
she’s celebrating herself,
calling you to smile and see
her colorful, splendid wealth.
