Autumn Flowers

A number of autumn flowers broaden their hours
of blooming from late summer to first frost glowers.
Their color pallet skills thrill us throughout fall
just like shapes the blooms create continue to enthrall.

Should flower pollinators attract your nod,
Asters, Salvias, Anise Hyssop and Goldenrods
are all successful in accomplishing the job.
Hummingbirds, bees and butterflies will supply
nectar and pollen after most summer blooms die.

Should a budget wish low maintenance realized,
some drought tolerant plants, minimally fertilized,
will beautifully grow and bloom with little care..
Such traits Sedums, Russian sage and coreopsis share.

Pansies, ornamental kale and varieties of asters
can tolerate light frost without it being a disaster.
For those plants, light frost does not prohibit blooming.
For tender zinnias and marigolds such would be dooming.

Plant perennials in spring or early summer for strong roots
and annuals in late spring to early summer for pursuit
of continuous blooms into autumn with awe absolute.

May efforts be labors of love for autumn plants that thrive
and fulfillment gazing at their beauty be what all derive.

A beautiful garden that flourishes in the waning days of summer and shorter days of autumn, CayCay. What a beautiful bouquet that reminds me there is loveliness in every season. Such beautiful observations in rhythm and rhymes. Thank you for this floral nosegay! Blessings for your garden!

Wow, you know so much about flowers! Good job of conveying the joys of flower growing. This was pleasant reading and educational. Before reading it, I think only knew three types of flower: rose, tulip, daisy.
