Autumn - Constanza

Autumn leaves falling, makes us sigh The arid ground is beautified Why for then should death be decried When life force ebbs and death draws nigh It’s but a time for transition Gaining in heaven admission Dark and lonely, seems the night sky Motionless, save a shooting star Wondrous, we look on from afar In truth there’s no final goodbye For we’re all in spirit entwined One light, in many forms confined Life is eternal, death’s a lie Know oh hermit, soul’s quintessence As living light, we’re God’s essence Autumn leaves falling, makes us sigh When life force ebbs and death draws nigh Dark and lonely, seems the night sky In truth there’s no final goodbye Life is eternal, death’s a lie 21-September-2022 In Remembrance of Connie -Autumn Theme Poetry Contest Sponsor: Suzanne Delaney

"In truth there’s no final goodbye Life is eternal, death’s a lie"..... These lines fortify us against fears of death and reduce the pain over the loss of dear ones. Though they stay away from our eyes and our presence, they enter a state of eternal bliss and it is such a consoling thought. With Autumn, our journey does not end, but paves way for resurrection. Beautiful poem

Yes, Valsa. As you’ve correctly observed, we are soul in dwelling decaying organic form. Body dies but soul, as God’s essence, lives on eternally.

Seeker, this is a lovely thanatopsis, thought-provoking and honoring of Connie's journey. Autumn is not an end, merely a segment of the journey through the year, and the same can be said of death as a portal to another and better realm. I love your use of light and dark as contrasting aspects of the same reality and especially the shooting star stanza. Thank you for honoring the memory of Connie this way. She is indeed a bright star in our celestial tapestry. Light and peace ~ John

Indeed, I’m sure Connie would have been pleased at the effort. I never knew she had invented this form, otherwise I’d probably have employed it earlier.

Dear Poet, I can't express how much I love this poem - so profound, and so well-crafted in Constanza form. Connie would have been very proud if she read this poem. And the last stanza - the last line - is just incredible! You have created a real gem! Blessings ~ Mala

Thank you, Mala! This is the first time I’ve tried this form and I wanted it to address Connie's transition from the material to the ethereal domain, whilst keeping in sync with the contest requirements. I’m so happy you approve :)
