Autumn
Golden leaves fall towards the frozen earth
To crunch beneath many a children’s shoe
Branches are bare, prepared for the winter
The weather decides just what to do
Birds migrate to where it’s warmer
Using their genetic navigation
Finding the same place on earth every time
The perfect over wintering station
The wind carries bears a chill, the nights close in
The daylight hours are reduced
Man retreats into the warmth of his home
It’s better here, he has deduced
The wind and the rain sting to the touch
You walk with a lean to progress
Well wrapped up to keep out the cold
And the icy rain ingress
