Autumn
A multi-hued leaf fell slowly
next to me
Lenau-like
As I stood watching its demise.
I did not ask the lonely leaf
if it loved
the gentle dying
of autumn.
Perhaps the leaf had enjoyed
its birth
and growth
through summer
While it survived fierce
storms
Testing its full strength
And now wanted nothing
more
Than to die gently.
