Aunt Gloria

AUNT GLORIA

                                         Lovely,

                                         Sweet,

                                         Generous,

                                         And Good

These are the qualities for which she stood.

Thoughtful and respectful in every way,
she always had something nice to say.

She liked to laugh, share a story or two,
and didn't she look pretty in her Irish blue?

She was always glad to receive your call,
or hang your artwork on her wall.

She enjoyed long walks on the old farm road,
                    dinners at the lake,
a new scarf for the cold.

A cheerful soul and her spirits remained high.
So remember this as you look to the sky,

She is now in Heaven a beautiful place...
                  Resting with God's holy grace.

I did write this after she died in 1991. I brought it to the wake framed and just left it on a table by the door. That's so interesting you would ask. I wish I could post a picture of her on this poem's screen, but I haven't learned how to yet or even if I can. I am touched by your comment. Thank you.

I sent you a couple of soupmails with step-by-step instructions for adding a picture to a poem. I hope it's not too confusing. Pictures add a really nice personal touch to our poems. Let me know here if you aren't able to open my Soupmails ~ John

What a touching and heartfelt salute to a wonderful person. Did you compose this for her memorial? She sounds like someone any niece or nephew would want to grow up and emulate.

Wonderful tribute, beautifully crafted. You did her and yourself proud. When heart and soul join together this is the result. A poem that resonates truth, dignity and sincerity. You have the gift of presenting something to be appreciated in any century. Thanks for sharing. David in NZ PS Stay safe.

We never forget the wonderful Aunt Gloria's of this world, we all had one, mine was my Granny Vienna, she was wise beyond her years, and taught me most everything that was of great value. Loved it, :)
