at your door

at your door

once, my heart stopped at your door
where the warmth of your body
stayed the cold Carolina snow

once, we listened to the falling flakes
drift to the wood porch
shivering in pretend
as our lovemaking began

it was your love that sustained me
through the winter and the days
of cold and darkness

that love sustains me now
