Notes About The Poem

At Play On a Moonlit River

a river sprite’s at play tonight chasing fireflies above a stream meandering through the tropics where royal palms’ crowns genuflect moonlight and pixie dust glow on ripples the great horned owl wakes and stretches his wings

Thanks for entering my contest, Carolyn, with this most beautiful poem. I had to give you a bronze medal win though the great horned owl does not belong in the tropics - the flow of your poem is so delightful.

I understand that according to National Geographic's website: "Great horned owls are adaptable birds and live from the Arctic to South America." Tough it's hard to spot owls, but a few of Carolyn's friends claim to have seen the great horned owls in Florida... I'm sure I would have given you a better placement with any other bird, Carolyn. Magical views you create, tho' only those that believe will ever see a sprite. Yet the scenery and its majesty any may see if they chose to investigate the wonders of Nature. You have painted a wondrous picture my friend.. A fav...

Wow, your poem is beautiful, Carolyn. It reminds of the rivers in the Everglades my dad and I would fish on when I was a little girl. We'd get out there before the sun came up. Thanks for taking me on a walk down memory lane. Hugs, Rhonda
