As Love Matures

Couples coming into prime exhibit an exact prognosis; passions working overtime while seeking love in heavy doses. Never being quite enough to satisfy their youthful yearning; time spent lying in the buff so sensitive to needs discerning. Couples in their middle age display a diff’rent kind of story; passions lack that same old rage as they once did when in their glory. Obligations, no time free, and children clinging to the tether; “scheduled moments” seem to be the only way to come together. Empty nesters think at last that time again is their possession; love will be as in the past when passions flowed without discretion. Yet they’re finding other ways to fill the moments of their leisure browsing Facebook in a daze without a thought of passion’s pleasure. Couples in their golden years just holding hands and reminiscing ‘bout old times, as sunset nears, recalling flames that now are missing. Passions that were once the scorch when ‘tween the sheets were interlocking; wooden chairs out on the porch the only things that now are rocking. May 8, 2021

And so the cycle of love and life continues, but how desperately lucky we are to have known and have cherished. Love this write John, thank-you for sharing. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Thank you so much, Jenn, I appreciate it. As we sit in our rocking chairs and reminisce we know that we have been truly blessed. Hugs.

I believe you may have outlined things very accurately. I for one have enjoyed the multiple season's of love and passion. I'm not scared of an old wooden rocking chair.

hahaha. Rocking on the porch instead of the "real" rock and rolling. Love that ending. I enjoyed the whole poem. I think in general you hit the nail on the head!

Your wonderful poem is an honest vignette of the stages we go through as passions wane when age keeps creeping up and up. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:40-43) comes to mind. My husband and I enjoyed a very long time in your first stanza and I am very grateful for that. I have to fave this gem! Blessings xxoo

"Just holding hands and reminiscing" Such a beautiful and tender thought. The title alone says it all. "As Love Matures" Yes, I believe it does, the older we get. Passion is there, just in a different way. Your words caress gently around me and my heart. Hugs, Brandy

Brilliant and certainly thought provoking John, I suppose as we get older our fires become just a glow. Hope you're well. Tom

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Tom. This is kind of a tongue-in-cheek write on one of the most basic of human emotions. All is well here, still very busy at work. Hope all is well with you. John
