As Dust Settles

the sun is erased

   behind a cloud of despair-

     days froze to silence

dust stung eyes of the earth, flags

           escaped their closets...

Carrie, I remember this day so well and love the way you described the silent despair as people took their U.S. flags from the closets and flew them, providing a sense of unity among all Americans. Congratulations on taking third place in the contest. There were many great entries, so take pride in your achievement. Love, Carolyn
