As Deafening As Silence

I can not be swayed by a stranger's words, they always sound suspicious to my ears. For unlike a murmuration of birds, a stranger's words cannot move me to tears. Only those close to me can betray me, for they're protected by a shield of trust. And because that shield blinds me, I can't see the footprints of betrayal in their dust. Truths can be as deafening as silence, when I choose not to hear what my friends say. And though hope is not an exact science, it's known to hold reality at bay. Betrayal begins with trust, as does love, the one emotion shared by God above.
