Are You Dead Now ?

Are You Dead Now ?

Did you die quietly
Without a whisper of complaint
Did all your desires
Fall from your lips
Merely as unspoken breath

Did you die silently
In the numb recesses
Of everything wasted
In a life time un-noted and un-counted
And just faded away

Did you die unheeded
With a million questions
Broken and unraveled
Like so many pieces of wasted thought
So pointlessly keen as they slipped away

Did you die
And so did not count the sun as a friend
Or consider when its heartbeat might end
And think in the night that no one should see you
And no one would miss you

Are you dead now
Was your name just simply called
Written with chalk on a blackboard
Dust to dust as you are wiped away
Into silence

Dead then
And there is nothing I can say or do
No words I can pass to re-ignite your soul
Love life they say and life will love you
In return
Die;
And you die;
Alone

i was so close to death the other night with an OD of cold drugs that ran my preasure up enough to give me thoughts of dying. at once i knew what it was like to die in ones sleep. when at first i thought it would be pleasant. no, it's the worst case of heart burn you ever had. i had to wait untill the drugs wore off and sincerly pray that it was not my time. was i concerned with the things i didn't say? more like the things God told me to say that i hadn't said yet. thats why this piece is soOMG

Amazing write with such a sad message. We are all the same, yet so different inside. What makes someone truly live, while others give up is often complicated. Wow, this is an extremely thought provoking subject. Excellent write. Love, Shar

Such a great poem showing that indeed death can occur while still breathing - so sad, the walking asleep. excellent Colin, love, Kristin

Things like this always bring to mind the line from Braveheart,,"every man dies, not every man lives" quite a contemplation for this hour o' da morn'in... Laurie
