Are You Awake

It's funny, you think, you ponder.
Watching those around you pass along,
thinking all is well, thinking all is fair.
 Memories flicker, memories fade,
What you think is there may be an apparition.
Like a mirage in the desert,
closer never seems to come near.
 Feelings once abundant,
now seem to go the way of imagination.
For once I thought I felt that way.
For once I thought you felt the same.
 Once the heat faded,
I realized the shimmer was only a dream.
Once a wave, a tsunami of emotion,
only to find a mouth of sand and eyes of grit.
 Wondering when you will wake,
Did you really live or are you still asleep?

Kristy, I've been reading several of your poems and been wondering if you write from things that you experience/d in life. I detect a recurring feeling in most of them. // paul

it's true... I'm terrible at being the "emotional poet".... All my work stems around something that is going on or something around me or something I see happening to others. I can write a book that will stir the imagination, but my poetry revolves around those around me....

Sometimes dreams can seem like reality while we are in REM sleep. Your words collectively deliver a good message.
