Are We Safe?
Are we safe??The room is still,
yet my mind keeps inventing footsteps.
?Every memory becomes evidence.?Every possibility becomes a warning.?I ask the darkness because fear always answers first.
Are we safe??My subconscious replies,?"What if they leave? What if you fail? What if tomorrow hurts more than today?"?It scatters questions like broken glass across my thoughts,?and I walk barefoot through every imagined disaster,?bleeding from wounds that have never happened.
Are we safe??I ask again, louder this time.?My reflection hesitates before looking back.?The anxious voice builds castles out of worst-case scenarios,?calling them preparation,?when all they've become are prisons with invisible walls.
Are we safe??The subconscious sighs.?"Remember the pain. Remember the disappointment. Remember every time you weren't."?It believes fear is protection.?It mistakes survival for living.?It wraps my future in yesterday's shadows.
Are we safe??I close my eyes and listen beneath the panic.?Beneath the noise... beneath the racing thoughts... beneath the trembling questions...?There is another voice—?quieter, stronger, older than fear itself.?It has waited patiently for me to hear it.
Yes We are Safe.?Because not every thought deserves my trust.?Because anxiety is loud, but truth never has to shout.?I have survived every storm my mind said would destroy me.?My breath is still here.?My heart is still beating.?That is evidence too.
Yes We are Safe.?Not because life promises certainty,?but because courage has learned how to stand beside uncertainty.?I release the weight of carrying disasters that haven't arrived.?I choose this moment.?This breath.?This heartbeat.?This life unfolding right now.
Yes We are Safe.?So I silence the alarm that no longer serves me.?I thank my subconscious for trying to protect me,?then gently remind it that we are no longer prisoners of fear.
?We are stronger than overthinking.?We are bigger than anxiety's echoes.?We are present.?We are healing.?We are free.?And together, at last...?we are safe.
