Anti-Poem – “Respirations In Blue”

the mother cooks food on the old gas range
wearing a blue dress she boils five potatoes
husband fred wears a red sweater smoking
pall mall non-filters that spew and respirate 
he stands with beaded ashtray and blue tie
listening to LA radio the tune-dex the top 50
he wonders if she needs help with the mashing
a white radio atop the fridge respirates softly 
sweeping them into the pillow rooms of blue time
the mother alive again though buried in a grave
cooks food for fred again watching jack latham 
wondering if kennedy will speak soon on the tv 
secretly wishing for ten minutes alone with him
her white pillbox hat sitting sullen on a dresser
husband fred draws in another hit and exhales

what makes the anti? what's American-anti poetry?

Thanks for the question. Anti-Poetry rejects the common, standard definitions of “poetry.” It does not rhyme, does not include any of the popular elements of poetry, like meter, metaphor, alliteration, etc. though the anti-poet might include such contrivances. Beauty is also eschewed if possible, replacing it with cold, inconsequential truth in the form of random life scenarios. Anti-Poetry does not attempt to inspire and is not didactic. “American Anti-Poetry” is a movement rejecting the elitist monopoly on what significant poetry entails. It rejects academia’s “woke” stranglehold on what is acceptable, serious American Poetry.
