Anticipating All the Evening's Fun
It is a darkling night in Union Square
Yet in our hearts 'tis bright as noonday sun
The gloomy mist cannot our high hopes snare
Anticipating all the evening's fun
We're going to a premiere Broadway play
And meeting all the stars and cast backstage
Then dancing out beneath the Milky Way
To music sweet as wine that's finely aged
We take each other's hands, but something's wrong
Expressions on our faces clammy cold
No matter that the band now plays our song
We're out of cards, and now it's time to fold
We search each other's eyes to find a clue
No mirror in them whispers, 'I love you'
