Another Saturday Night, Alone

Sitting here in my room
   Listening to Ella Fitzgerald
(on what would have been her 90th birthday)
Not so bad to be alone
Health worries bother me
but I have a pen and paper(thank God)
Continue to persist
   with my literary efforts
   I am haunted by
the shadows
  of past masters of verse
I have plenty of them on recordings
Do you share these feelings poets and poetesses?
Leaving behind the hard work needed for success
We have chosen the path of the poet's art
No way to get rich from it
Of course your papers
may fetch a lot of loot - after you are gone
Not much of a comforting thought
By applying yourself to your art you will achieve
what you want to
WHAT YOU MUST

this is so descriptive of what we think and go through. And write - we MUST!

I can relate to this, Matthew. I often find myself alone in my room just writing, but I like it that way... The words of the masters do haunt us, as ours may do one day... Your poem is thought provoking and so expressive. An excellent write!

Yes WE have to write! Yet, though it takes a muse it is still is a job, if we do not put a jobs worth of effort into it we won't make a salary! Thanks so much for always stopping by my verses. I appreciate YOU and your verses. Light & love

Don't stay in and write Matthew - get out and do it too! take my notepad with me wherever I go - yes I like my solitude sometimes but also need the company of others. I doubt anyone could read my scrawlings lol and doubt they would be of any value when I am gone - I write for the moment - our legacy of work will live on through our words Matthew:-) Hugs Jan xx
