Animal Olympics (Lion Vs. Buffalo - Africa 2005)
Such a dull and dreary existence
So labeled as we’re frowned upon
A glutton’s call, revolting resistance
As normal a routine as the rising sun
Constant hunger, constant need
A daily struggle through history
Forever grazing, forever feed
With hidden agendas and mystery
It gets quite lonely being normal
At the bottom of the food chain
You wouldn’t know, we’re quite informal
As we leave crop circles when we train
From time to time more often than not
We spar to keep our wits alive
Stimulate muscles, prepare and plot
When real threats come we must survive
The challenge is issued, accepted by us
Extremist sport of major proportion
Olympian triumph or dire consequence
The pinnacle of battle’s contortion
We understand what they must do
To ensure life for another day
We too have kin, we too pull through
Against the odds of lethal games played
We bow our heads then lift them high
We do each other proud
We flaunt success, we fill the sky
Celebrate victories much as is allowed
When one has fallen, first we pause
And gracious in defeat
We carry on for valiant cause
‘Tis nature’s intended feat
So when you come with human hand
And strike opponents down for sport
All nature’s children ‘cross the land
Weep over the loss while kings retort
We feel the sting of aching pain
We don’t rejoice the slaughter
Do us no favors, leave untouched
Our pure and innocent daughters
Where once we thrived on adrenalin rush
These humble creatures roam
The same could happen to one of us
It’s like losing one of our own
So leave us be in death and birth
No intervention needed at all
We sporting kids of mother earth
Don’t care to be trophies on walls
