ANIMAL HOUSE

                            Oh, give me a home
                        Where the beasties roam
Where dogs on the couches play
                         Where the kitties explode
                        With needled claws showed
And Scatter the rugs each day

                        Where the gerbils dig in
                       To demand feeding again
By squeaking a very loud wheel
                       And scratch on their glass
                        Without very much class
                      Until they obtain their meal

                        From couch and chair
                          I vacuum the hair
                 With which the furniture’s lined
                        I love them all dearly
                        Although they nearly
Drive me out of my mind

                   The Terrier needs clipping
                     The kitty pan’s dripping
                 The Shephard’s in heat again
                      The gerbils’ bedding
                   To the floor is spreading
My chores are about to begin

                  But they’re all worthwhile
                     They make me smile
                 The kitties cuddle so sweet
                   The Terrier plays ball
                 The Shephard guards all
And the gerbils have tickly-cute feet!

I loved this. I could just see your home filled with cacophony and animals - all feeling loved. A nice bright read. Adorable!

Hahaha! Wonderful fun write; I've had cats, dogs, and gerbils; you've nailed them all. Still, we couldn't live without them, could we?

Yes, we have had them all but when our children were grown there were no more gerbils, the bothersome little rodents! Cats, dogs and horses however, we could never live without! Thanks for your complimentary review! :)

As are you not shy, as I know well from communications with you. This poem I wrote way back in the 1980s before we graduated to Hungarian Vizslas and Pomeranians for dogs and kept gerbils for our kids when they were still kids and could only afford fabric furniture. When I found it in my poetry archives I decided to post it on Soup. Thanks so much for the most complimentary review.
