"Angry Black Woman? I Think Not ".

I write this to you-
The accusations dressed as
Curiosity,

The fairy tale that never learned
My name

You come expecting thunder
Where there is a setup,

Expecting rage
Where there is a woman
Who refuses to fold.

You want me loud
So you don't have to listen,

You want me furious
So you don't have to face
Yourself.

But I am not
Your emotional scapegoat,

You call me "angry"
Because you cannot decipher,

A Black Woman's Certainty.

You call me " angry" when I 'm clear,
You call me " loud" when
Truth draws near.

You fear the strength you
Can't distinguish,

So you rewrite me- every time.

But my calm is intentional,
My clarity is earned,

My steadiness is genealogical affiliated.

I rise in memory,
Not in anger,

I rise in the lessons
Of a woman who learned
To speak without trembling.

I rise in quite strength
That doesn't need amplification
To be heard.

You mistake my boundaries
For blaze,
My intelligence
For ignition,
My refusal to be rewritten
For revolt.

So let me clarify
Will skill:
I am not anger
I am alignment.

I am not rage-
I am reclamation.

I am not your fairy-tale
I am my own definition.

If my presence feels fierce,
That's because you're used
To women shrinking,
I don't.

Find it my truth feels sharp,
That's because truth has edges.
