Notes About The Poem

The account below is nonfiction.  One of my interests is Christian Apologetics.  Part of my involvement with this included reading Atheistic literature.  One night in 2007, after I finished reading Sam Harris's book, Letter to a Christian Nation, I went to bed.  I was awakened an hour later by visitors I could not see.  I knew two things, they hated me absolutely and wanted to hurt me physically.

I also knew I had to be very cautious on what I did next.  I had read enough of the Bible, heard enough from preachers and had read enough supplemental material (in particular, Watchman Nee), to know that anything I did, that was based solely on my own power, would be a major error.

I recalled strategies such as 'rebuking in the name of Christ' and others, but I was not sure if I would make a mistake with those, so I kept thinking and then got some divine help.

Angels

by digital light
they hovered and poured pure hate
down over my bed

hung the advisors
selling sammy’s letter to
a christian nation

of gods and portals
opened when I closed the book
and peeked into worlds

a hair’s width away
from my face they pressed hard for
another mistake

doubt stabbed my recall
of passages and preachers
in this kind of fight

would they not give chase
fear stumbles a femur snaps
to put me back down

reduced my weapons
to decorative clutter
in that old farmhouse

The Holy Ghost spoke
told me not to engage them
extended his hands

slowly closed my eyes
blurred vision of Christ who stood
by his Father’s throne

and before any
of minute’s measures of time
three demons were gone

Indeed, Rob!!! It's all real! Your poem/poems have reminded me of a higher accountability we are each being held to/called to... and reminders of an earlier calling to holiness; untainted; G-d alone! I really like your gifted works!!! Press-on!! Big Hugggs. Deb

Hi Rob, Congratulations on your 1st place win in the contest. Well Rob, your write pulls the reader in and actually makes one think on their own beliefs as far as Angels go. An excellent write, well deserving of a seven.
