Notes About The Poem

Andre, the Man

we knew the legend but not the man
only when he died
the truth did come to light

known as the gentle giant
his whisper resembling a roar
yet kind to a fault he had a heart of gold

his strength was superhuman
always had a smile it seemed
but in this world he did not fit

in his prime he would keep active
in the ring he made his home
everywhere else he’d be a misfit

too soon the reality of his condition
had his bones crumble
under their own weight

he lived in pain that was unbearable
but truth be told
it was his heart that suffered most

when he no longer was a powerhouse
his soul was disconnected from its north star
adrift in a universe not made for him
