Notes About The Poem

And Then There Was None- Anacreontic Verse 2

she could count them all
on her one hand
every reason
that she could think of
one, two, three, four, five
reasons to try
to stay alive
all on one hand
but day after day
she'd fold a finger
and then say:
"One more is gone...
Can I go on
in this way?
Maybe one more day."

then there were two
she tried to be brave
maybe she could save
one life for two

then down to one
unraveling fast
~~~~~~~~~~
and then one day
there was none
one slash then two
and she saw red
tilting back her head
she sang the songs
Ophelia led
as she bled
waiting to be dead
Oh, gosh that is dark and sad, but I can relate and so will many others. You said it, a component of it, very well with words perfectly suited to that frame of mind ... oh, oh ... CayCay
Further down your list I suggest one write would be perfect for this contest, now I see you don't need an entry. Someday I'll conquer the think before 'speaking' philosophy that would well suit me! CayCay (now I'll read the poem)
Suicide is a release from pain and helplessness, when no way out is visible. A hard step to take, unfortunately taken after cries for help have been exhausted. Poetically you have tackled the subject with able pen, especially the reference to Ophelia. ~ Hugs // paul
Sometimes....it absolutely shocks me how cries for help go unnoticed, Paul. At times people think it's all just drama...a gimmick. :( Then....the time comes when it's too late. Thanks for your visit to my sad write. Blessings.
This is a sad beautifully expressed piece. Disturbingly artistic. The reality of suicide is not nearly as poetic, as it destroys the people left behind. For me I fear the romanticism of suicide. For some it might make it seem more appealing, especially if they are currently in a dark place and they feel Suicide is their best way to escape the pain.
You are so right, Richard. Sometimes it is only faith...or family...or fear....that keeps one from taking this option. Thank you for understanding. You are such wise with spiritual wisdom, Rick. I'm glad to have you in my life.
wow, I LOVE this. The whole "idea" of how you set it up. One of the best I have seen tonight, Eileen. Toward the end when you say, Ophelia lead as she bled" if you are rhyming lead with bled, I think it's Led.
Your praise means a great deal to me, Andrea. Thanks for saving my neck with that correction. I really appreciate it. I'm post on your poem since you don't read these. ;)
Deep dark and sad is right up my lane, Jan. I have another write called Songs of Ophelia....Posted it some time back. This is how I feel at present. I'm sick....physically and emotionally...so, it seemed about right for this theme. Thanks for the visit, Hon....
