And So It Begins

And so it begins....
My morning ritual.
I sit down at my desk
Fresh cup of coffee in hand.
The first tentative peeps and chirps
   start in the next room.
As the sky lightens from gun-metal grey
   to a soft pearl grey
They start to chatter.
And as daylight creeps upon us
The first one breaks into song.
Then the others join in.
The canary choir singing their ode
   to a new day.
This is how I start my mornings.
With a beautiful sunrise welcomed
   by my very own choir...
And so it begins.

It must be delightful to wake up and hear the "canary choir," Francine. This sounds like the perfect way to start a new day. My windows are always open in winter here and there are birds chirping outside. Add to that the bells from St. Brendan's church and it becomes a spiritual experience. Very nice use of the free verse form to create an image of your morning ritual. Love, Carolyn

My family once had two parakeets, and they never shut up. Your writing is nice and descriptive.
