"Dayum - that hurts!" cried the waking soil, frozen hard as concrete ... "Couldn't you wait a smidge longer ... I mean, until I thawed out a bit?" (As it watched its surfaces crack and crumble and bulge from beneath). The sun WAS out, it had to admit, but all was yet frozen and snoozing. More crumbling ensued, as a little yellow spear slowly poked its noggin, "Well??" asked the soil, waiting ... the Crocus rose proudly, and smiled. ~ 1st Place ~ in the "Writing Challenge 6, March 2019 - 6 Lines" Poetry Contest, Dear Heart, Judge & Sponsor.
