"Dayum - that hurts!" cried the waking soil, frozen hard as concrete ...
"Couldn't you wait a smidge longer ... I mean, until I thawed out a bit?"
(As it watched its surfaces crack and crumble and bulge from beneath).
The sun WAS out, it had to admit, but all was yet frozen and snoozing.
More crumbling ensued, as a little yellow spear slowly poked its noggin,
"Well??" asked the soil, waiting ... the Crocus rose proudly, and smiled.
