Notes About The Poem

And a Nightingale Sings

It's another lonely night
 shared with the glowing moon,
 while listening to a Nightingale
 continuously sing a sad tune.

 What has a songbird
 to be so sullen about?
 Does it trill in anger?
Is its heart filled with doubt?

 Some birds mate for life,
 while all others they spurn.
 That is a wise lesson
 all humans should learn.

 Are birds more capable
 of being loyal to love?
 There's a reason the symbol
of love is portrayed by a dove.

 People are much too fickle
 when they smile and say,
"I love you so very much,"
when it's just a game they play.

Very true Lin, people are too fickle, when we were in Patagonia we saw penguins, they also mate for life, so loyal, my wife's favourite bird, enjoyed the read, always with a life lesson, makes it more meaningful. Thanks for posting this beauty.

Thank you, John. Sometimes reality stinks, but this one was just a fiction piece for me. I was loved, which makes losing it all the more painful. Your comments are always encouraging.

Hi Lin, a wonderful write from your pen once more. I love the content in this write. The words reach out in their silence to touch the heart. As i always say Lin, a beauty can always be found within sadness and the beauty is in your words. Yes, it does have the five stanzas for Constance contest. You should give it a looksy. Has to be a seven and a fave. Hugs....Mike. XX

This is beautiful but sad Lin - many birds mate for life - not like our relationships which can be so fragile.. and we can get pooped on just the same! I hope this is for Broken Wings Contest:-) hugs Jan xx
