Ancient Eyes

Ancient eyes, full of cold wisdom, Long forgotten are the joys, That once lit up their lives, Ancient eyes unseeing of the bright colors, That once lit up the wonder in their soul. Ancient eyes, so empty and alone. broken in two. No longer the avid pupil, but the world weary tutor, Ancient eyes, maybe you have seen too much? Wisdom is wonderful, but the very wings that gave you said wisdom, You have plucked. Their bright feathers scattered to the wind. No longer do you feel the joy of something new. Of the simple discovery, of something you have not seen before. Ancient eyes, I weep for you. Ancient eyes, I pray for you. May you remember where your wisdom grew. Not in the responsibilities of an adult, But more in the wonder of the child. For they know they do not know it all.

very interesting poem no doubt applicable to many of our lonely elderly. I have met some though that have kept that wide eyed innocence though. Trasures to behold. enjoyed your poem-Robert
