Anatomy of a Poem
I dreamt that a poem I’d written,
on a topic with which I was smitten,
was by some, thought to be sublime,
but though I wrote as usual in rhyme
this poem has no message to impart,
being naught but thoughts from my heart!
It was by no means a Divine inspiration,
but merely a casual passing observation.
It’s message, if such it could be claimed,
possesses no agenda that can be named;
so the words that herein are writ,
will not affect the reader one bit.
The lines I’ve composed are not many,
and being simplistic in nature, few if any
can be seen as offering any advice
to the reader. In truth, it will suffice
for me to say, they were simply penned
on an idea to which I felt I must attend!
This is no earth shattering composition:
no dogmatic treatise, to give my opinion,
but merely my desire to write a few rhymes:
which will sometimes occur to me at times.
I, having suffered “writer’s block” of late,
find writing thus helps to overcome that state!
I’ll face my nemesis head on, when I can,
but by making it a poetic topic, I can scan
my brain for a possible answer to my woes.
Poetry in rhyme is taxing, that’s how it goes,
but the final result, once it has been achieved,
is a rhythmic poem that can be believed!
