An Ordinary Autumn Morning
The park still wears a light mist
over its grassy reaches.
Autumn and the trees
are losing their leaves.
Children are getting ready
to go to school.
An old woman is pushing
a shopping trolley full
of her possessions along
the street. The homeless
emerge from cardboard boxes.
The days are getting colder.
A crane on a nearby building
site begins to turn slowly,
lifting a metal cage up
off the ground and into
a clear sky. This
is ground zero.
