An Old Summer's Day

My love, that old summer sun;
How that smile perched itself
Upon her.

O, how that gelato breathed
Upon our lips
That day I kissed you –

I was so fragile then,
A leaf in the creases
Of her fading days.

O how I regret myself.

If only I could chase the seasons –
I’d have followed you away
Upon the heron’s trail
Into heaven.

O how I regret myself.
