An Ebony Night
Feeling smug about its certainty
night anticipates daylight’s demise.
And when scattered shades of gray gather
blue finds sanctuary in your eyes.
As crimson flames melt a stained-glass sky
Sol's scarlet orb reluctantly sinks.
And night dilutes the essence of light
as silhouettes absorb blackened inks.
Vermilion colors the horizon
as fireflies flash signals in the air.
And dusk creates magical moments
that lonely lovers secretly share.
Darkness descends like a shroud of smoke
snuffing out any lingering light.
And in the fabric of time and space
stars confetti an ebony night.
A golden moon pools in the heavens
gilding waters of a wishing well.
And silence mutes the beat of two hearts
held captive in love’s hypnotic spell.
