An Addict's Prose

I am Sadness I am Death I am Longing I am Need I am the beast within you My call you can never ignore I am Terror I am Blithe I am Impulse I am Love I am the reason that she leaves you I give you hope that she will return I am Hate I am Desire I am Faith I am Weakness I am the lover in bed beside you Telling you to have just one more I am Venal I am Trust I am Rapture I am Thirst I feel the horror of sobriety When you stop to see yourself I am Ambition I am Loss I am Truth I am Hurt I am the dream of normalcy That haunts the bottom of the glass I am Sorrow I am Oblivion I am Hunger I am Absence I am the beast within you My call you can never ignore

Being addict is such a menace. Lives are ruined, families destroyed and childhood lost. This was an apt way to put all that destruction. I loved the flow of it, the way it carried a message line by line, penetrating the heart more and more!! Lets try to tame the beast of addiction. Take care, Chitra

Excellent description of addiction - it truly is a beast, and one of the hardest to tame. it involves a total life transformation, and that, to most, is a very scary ordeal. One must just do it. Life awaits...well said, love Kristin

Bradley being a addict who served two prison terms for manufacturing methamphetamine I can totally relate to this poem - I now have 5 years clean - if you wish to know more of my story read my poem "destruction - reconstruction" - or "one second" - both are quite graphic - Great job penning this - God Bless
