Notes About The Poem

For context, this is an old poem written by a much wilder younger me of and somewhere in the middle of a twenty year stint as a bike messenger.

Amen

Clinging
climbing the walls
cracks and burrows
dodging mangles and tangles
dead ends
no bends
fire and ice
and ice hurts more
once twice thrice
but hey!
dismount
assess
access
I'm a mess
creak crack
(yes my crack hurts too)
broken back
arms dragging sagging and blue
but hell I'm here!
and hail that too!

Enjoyed this delightfully vivid image which you wrote with such a lovely humorous presentation, Maureen. I've had stints at bike riding...what about horse bare back riding...they both can give you aching endings!! Regards // paul

A city girl that dreamed of riding horses my chromemolly steed sufficed. Love horseback riding, haven't in years, can't imagine after the damage I've done my pelvis would submit to that bouncy bouncy :) You make me smile Paul, thank you xomo!

As a recreational bike-crasher I'm just a couple of concussions short of a self-lobotomy. Or do bikers begin with one? Can't believe you got PAID to ride! No matter, I'll bet you still ride in retirement. Love the PO!!! Hail, hell, ho ho ho. Black 'n blue 'n purple are great colors together, eh? RIDE ON TIGER! ~ j

Now we don't need to start a concussion competition lol! A wholly addictive line of work I would never recommend. I overdosed on adrenaline, on a cargo trike now, I used to ride roads like rapids, now my big boat hugs the shore :)

Wow Mo, you have written a fantastic write here, sometimes the old ones can be glorious ones too! I thought your note was cute, and after I read the poem I see why you put that note on! It certainly illuminates the poem more! You have made me smile with this poem, though I like winter versus summer, but for a bike messenger I can see why you would like the summer more! What a grand piece, Great Work!!

You're the sweetest Russell :) thank you! I used to loathe winter but appreciate it now, winters now nothing like when I started cold wise, that and I don't have to bike it. I keep a husky mutt too which helps make winter fun. Wonderful evening to you! xomo
