Alpenglow
The alpenglow of sunset
Puts on its daily show
With changing of the colors
In undulating flow.
I watch in fascination
For each succeeding hue
And wonder if the angels
Are gazing at them too.
At sunset and at daybreak
God opens Heaven's door
And lets some of its glory spill
Upon the Earth once more.
No gifted mortal painter can
Approach the beauty of
The picture painted for us
By His own hand with love.
The brights and lights of crimson
In everchanging glow
Are but a mere reflection
Of Heaven's rich tableau
