Alpaca

Oh my Alpaca
Has purple spots
You can see them when he trots
I'll take his wool to make a sweater
Then we'll both have purple spots

I always find poems for children really difficult. some say that you have to think like a child, I don't agree. I think that the writer has to be open-minded enough to view a world they may well have left behind a long time ago. The writer should ask themselves 'Is this what I would have appreciated as a child?' For me the answer to this poem is a resounding 'Yes!' Short and beautifully inventive, but also skillfully crafted.
