Along with the Thunder In midst of a storm where dark clouds gather Where thunder screams with a deafening roar Where lightning flares like a blinding flasher, Immersed with dark feelings deep to the core, I broil and brawl along with the thunder With no thought for retreat or surrender, In this inner storm that has wrecked my heart Every burst of thunder is a deep sting Within, not outside, tearing me apart With echoes of pain down my self to ring Like the burning bite of a bumble bee That swiftly swords a pinch and yearns to flee; During intervals of the thunder growl Mellowed memories migrate to my mind, Reminiscence of sweet days that have rolled, Of sweet-smelling days that like spring did shine, But now in the thin ether long bygone Leaving me and my memories alone; Memories of melodic words exchanged Now ring in my delicate ears with pain, Melodious music shared together Now splashes at my window panes like rain Drowned by the blaring blasts of the thunder Splitting like dry peas my heart asunder; If thunder roars in darkness of the night Will summer sweet sunshine be far away To brighten the day and moon to shed light, Where there is a will there can be a way, An adage I have gathered since my youth A bold, basic, brainy and breathless truth; Amidst the thunder a light draws my sight, A light that beckons me to brave the storm’ An inner luminous light that shines bright Signals me to sustain my sturdy form As flickers of lightning last for a day And the wildest woeful winds wane away; The shattering roars now seem to abate And the woeful winds of the storm to fade: Battling along with thunder was my fate To test of what stuff my spirit is made As far away, sign of a shining light In the grey shadowed sky slowly ignites; The thunderous blasts I have leaned to face The lightning flashes do not dull my eyes With shield of indifference I am braced By peering within I try reach the sky, Blasts of thunder cannot subdue my soul But bolster my spirit to make me whole.
