Alone

What I have learned
Throughout my brief time here
Is we’re all fragile creatures
Inhabiting this world full of fear

Our journey is lonely
The battle is all in our mind
We frantically seek others
In an attempt to complete our lonely lives

Some have broken hearts
Longing for someone to make them whole
While others suffer in silence
Dying quietly alone

We fret over others trivial words
We allow them to affect our minds
They’re just another fragile creature
Controlling our valuable limited time

Some seek meaning and purpose
Trying to make sense of all life's tragedies
It's a futile attempt
To put the conscious beast at ease

The world is indifferent
It doesn't care that we’re here
We’re insignificant
So get over your fears

The truth is, we are alone
Evolved to be aware and be free
To be a good steward
To take ownership and responsibility

We have a unique opportunity
The only true blessing is to live
It's what you do
It's not what you get - it's what you give

So stop making excuses
A victim you're not
Pull up your big girl panties
And shut up with the ought’s

Start living your life
Letting go of all irrational fears
Suffering is necessary
To build equity throughout our years

The answer is self-compassion
And service for our fellow man
Perhaps this is what’s meant
When we say it’s all part of God's plan

So let go of the suffering
Ironically, the pain will subside
Have compassion
Help others to engage in life

We’re all fragile creatures
Full of fear, in a place we call home
We have an incredible opportunity
By acknowledging, we’re alone

Real insightful piece Kelly, with great imagery and thoughtful rhyme too. You sum up what's it like to be alone in so many different ways. Hope to read more from your gifted pen, Blessings from Scotland, Gordon
